Before assembling such a symbol it's advisable to check whether there
is a font which already contains this symbol:
texdoc symbols-a4
Searching 422 pages takes some time but using a symbol provided by a
font is the most robust solution.
BTW, IMO it's quite strange if a publisher changes the font without
consulting the author.
